The Virtual Rendezvous®

Virtual Rendezvous is the name of a small, virtual corporation of like-minded individuals, companies, and organizations dedicated to the designing, building, and fostering of a more socially-focused version of cyberspace. This vision is much more than the Web, although parts of it can be prototyped on the Web, and it is much more than IRC chat or telephony, though those will play a part in its first implementations.

Over time, this site hopes to foster discussion, spread information and ideas, and create a home for visionaries, both artistic and scientific.

At first, it can only be a reflection of its creators, but The Virtual Rendezvous cannot succeed without your input and feedback. Your voice will help make this site, and our vision, come into being. For now, mailing lists and moderated additions to this site are all that's possible, but check back here now and again and you may soon see a much more interactive and community-oriented face on these shared discussions.

Virtual Rendezvous is looking for motivated hackers, artists, and designers to work on building a prototype of the system. The result of this work will be tested in a small (Net) community and, if successful, will be used to leverage capital for a national deployment. Only those with ambitious, seemingly unrealistic goals need apply. We plan on changing the world.

Though all our early efforts will be freely available, and many parts of the Virtual Rendezvous Service will always be free, the ultimate goal of the company is to make enough money to free its creators from work other than the completion of their shared vision. Thus, serious contributors must eventually sign mutual non-disclosures with the company, and some source code and designs must be kept confidential. In return, those making significant contributions will get a chance to own a piece of Virtual Rendezvous. If this is a problem for you, work only on the free parts! (They will always be free.)

Virtual Rendezvous also maintains a Java page.

And sponsors a regular dose of commentary and art called The Tangled Web.
